Draft Proposed Legislation to Establish a Food Policy for Maine

A report and recommendations from the Working Group and Advisory Committee convened by the Commissioner of the Maine Department of Agriculture, Food and Rural Resources in June of 2005 may be downloaded here. This 22-page document (a 2.6 MB PDF file) also lists the members of the groups who created this document, the draft proposed legislation, the implementation plan, goals, background and history of what led to its creation.

The objectives of a Food Policy for Maine are to guide policy and program development, establishs a food policy council to oversee and implement the policy as an ongoing process, and direct state agencies to coordinate with the council and to ensure state policies and procedures are consistent with the objective of Maine’s Food Policy. The resolve requests funding for one full time equivalent staff person to carry out the work of the Council.
