Welcome to the Arborist Program

What is an arborist?

According to Maine arborist licensing law (7 MRSA Section 2173-2191), an arborist is anyone who, for compensation:

  • takes down or fells shade or ornamental trees;
  • diagnoses or evaluates the condition of shade or ornamental trees;
  • solicits, recommends or supervises the treatment of shade or ornamental trees;
  • or in any manner or for any purpose treats or cares for shade or ornamental trees.
