Pine Tree Development Zones: How to Apply
Your company will first need to be certified by the DECD. The first step in the process is submitting a “but for” letter to DECD prior to any public announcement of any proposed development project. A sample letter and instructions are below. The letter is your statement that, without PTDZ benefits, your company would not be creating new jobs in Maine. DECD will acknowledge the letter, after which you complete the application for certification. A sample application, blank application, and application instructions are below. After review and approval by DECD, the date the application was received becomes the effective date of the company's PTDZ certification and the date from which your benefits will be calculated forward.
We encourage you to read the guidance documents carefully and to consult your regional Governor’s Account Executive should you run into problems or have questions.
