Mallinckrodt (formerly HoltraChem)
The Mallinckrodt facility sits on 235 acres on the banks of the Penobscot River in Orrington, Maine. The plant operated under several owners from 1967 through 2000. The facility manufactured chlorine, sodium hydroxide (caustic soda), sodium hypochlorite (chlorine bleach), hydrochloric acid and chloropicrin (a pesticide).

January 25, 2013 the Maine Business and Consumer Court dismissed the independent claim of Mallinckrodt and United States Surgical Corp. Court dismissed (pdf)
October 31, 2012 the Maine Business and Consumer Court affirmed the Board of Environmental Protection clean up order in all respects. Court affirmed (pdf)
Timeline
The new waste water treatment plant is now operational.
November 24, 2008 DEP Commissioner issued Compliance Order requiring Mallinckrodt to clean up the site
December 19, 2008 Mallinckrodt appealed Commissioner's Order to the Board of Environmental Protection (BEP)
January 25 to February 4, 2010 BEP held nine-day de novo evidentiary hearing
August 19, 2010 BEP denies Mallinckrodt appeal and upholds November 24, 2008 Commissioner Order with modifications
September 17, 2010 Mallinckrodt appeals BEP decision to court
October 31, 2012 Court affirms BEP decision requiring clean up of site
