Introduction

The Maine DEP's Overboard Discharge (OBD) Program is responsible for regulating discharges of sanitary and household wastewater generated at residential or commercial locations to streams, rivers, bays, and the ocean. All OBDs must be approved by the DEP through a licensing process. For more information, see DEP Issue Profile: Overboard Discharges (OBDs).

If you are buying or selling a property that contains an OBD (transfer of ownership), the DEP strongly recommends you contact us to discuss the OBD laws and rules early in the process.

Overboard Discharge Elimination Progam (OBD). Grants for the removal of individual overboard discharges of wastewater. More information about OBD grants.
