Pre-Season Shrimp Trapping, as of February 4, 2013
Five shrimp trappers from midcoast Maine (from Boothbay to Vinalhaven) set some experimental pre-season shrimp traps between January 24 and February 2, 2013. Each trapper was allowed to set and haul up to 6 traps. Catch rates were slow (less than 1 pound per trap). One sample (from Boothbay) was collected, and had 37 shrimp with only 6 still egged (16 %), and a count of 33/lb.
