Process for Support of
Atlantic Salmon Research and Assessment Projects Action Team Chair receives a cover letter or e-mail and project description form (http://www.maine.gov/dmr/searunfish/FrameworkProposalGuidlines.doc) requesting review of a project. Research requests for hatchery products must be within anticipated production capacity and integrate with hatchery and field stocking operations. Proposals involving requests for eggs or fry are due on or before 15 August (the year before stocking), and proposals involving requests for parr or smolts are due on or before 1 January (the year of stocking). Proposals not requiring hatchery products (studies at the hatchery or hatchery products for field or laboratory studies) will be accepted on either date, and will also be reviewed if received at least 12 weeks (3 months) prior to the start of the research. Examples include: tagging fish in rivers, field behavioral or physiological studies. Requests for use of hatchery fish or egg received after deadlines may be denied or deferred to the following year. What: Atlantic Salmon Recovery Framework Action Team Meeting
Maine Atlantic Salmon Recovery Framework Meeting Agenda
What is the Framework:The National Marine Fisheries Service, U. S. Fish & Wildlife Service, Maine Department of Marine Resources and the Penobscot Indian Nation have been working together over the past few years to coordinate and prioritize efforts on behalf of wild Atlantic salmon. We share a strong interest in ensuring that our individual and combined resources are used in the most efficient and effective manner to maximize our collective ability to successfully protect and recover endangered Atlantic salmon. The result of those collaborations is an Atlantic Salmon Recovery Framework. We are very interested in seeking public comments on our activities as well as the opportunity to hear about complementary activities being undertaken by others on behalf of salmon. To facilitate this information exchange, we intend to hold annual meetings during which we will describe the activities we have undertaken over the past year, the status of wild salmon, and the plans for the coming year. The 2011 annual meeting is the first meeting so the focus will be more forward-looking in terms of describing the actions and activities being undertaken and planned for the near future. Announcing Peter Lamothe's CHAT membership.Peter Lamothe, who has recently assumed his role as Complex Manager of the Maine Fisheries Program Complex (Craig Brook NFH, Green Lake NFH and the Maine Fishery Resources Office), has been added to the membership of the Atlantic salmon Recovery Team, specifically on the Conservation Hatchery Action Team.Reports:
