Foliage Report for October 17, 2012
Last of Maine's Peak Foliage Showing in Central, South Coast Regions
Final Maine Fall Foliage Report
AUGUSTA, Maine – Peak foliage color is holding along the southern half of Maine's coast and around the state's central capital region, according to the final 2012 Fall Foliage Report from the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry.
For the second straight week Maine Forest Service and state park rangers are reporting peak color north and south of the state capital of Augusta to include Monmouth, Gardiner, and the China Lakes and Belgrade Lakes regions (southern Zone 3), and in all coastal communities from Kittery to Portland, Brunswick, Camden and Belfast (Zone 1). Leaf drop is currently moderate, or less than 50 percent, in these regions, according to the report.
Rangers say this weekend will be the last time to view peak color atop Mt. Megunticook or Mt. Battie in Camden Hills State Park.
Foliage color in all other regions of the state is currently past peak with moderate to high leaf drop, according to the report.
