Fire Prevention
Forest Rangers work with organized town fire departments to keep fires in municipalities to a minimum. Arsonists cause 1 out of 5 wildfires in Maine, costing taxpayers thousands of dollars each year. An arson hotline has been established to help minimize the number of arson fires in Maine. Forest Rangers enforce fire prevention statutes that work to minimize the impacts of wildfires such as laws dealing with open burning permits, failure to extinguish a fire, and violations of open burning permit restrictions.
