State laws about woodlands are written to protect your rights as a woodland owner and to make shared responsibilities clear to all. For example, timber trespass is a serious offense that can result in heavy fines. Timber trespass occurs when trees are harvested on land not owned by the individual conducting the harvest. That's why it is essential for Maine woodland owners to know and mark their boundaries. Other regulations help woodland owners protect water resources and prevent soil erosion, two examples of responsibilities that are shared by all conscientious owners.
