Growing "Woods Wise" begins with your land, your vision, and your choices. Meeting with a District Forester from the Maine Forest Service to walk your land and talk about your vision is the best way to get started. Your meeting with a District Forester is absolutely free and carries no obligations whatsoever. You'll find that our knowledgeable Foresters can answer your key questions: What trees are these? Are they healthy? Are my trees valuable? Can I harvest some and leave others? How can I plan a timber harvest that will preserve or even enhance the beauty of my forest? What will my woodland look like in ten or twenty years if I don't harvest? Do I need a [Consulting Forester]? How can I enroll in state programs that help me as a woodland owner? Getting answers to these and many other questions will help you make the best choices for your land and trees. And it will be easier for you to make certain that your wishes for your woodland are carried out in the future. Take some time to complete this worksheet, ["A Plan for My Land."] This is only a worksheet; it is one way for you to organize your knowledge and ideas about your woodland. Completing it before you meet a District Forester on your land will help make your meeting even more productive.
