Figure 9. Close-up of the boulder in Figure 8. Note the horizontal layering in the rock. This is not granite, but metamorphic rock of the Ellsworth Formation. The nearest bedrock of the Ellsworth Formation is about 4 miles north of here. This very large boulder was carried a great distance by glacier ice.
