Photo 20. A classic glacial erratic. A huge, rounded boulder that's made of rock different from the bedrock it is resting on. This boulder was carried in the ice from somewhere north of here, and came to rest when the glacier melted. It was undoubtedly embedded in a deposit of other debris, but the modern ocean has swept away all the smaller stones and rock fragments. Last updated on October 3, 2011 |
