Figure 9. View of a house in Jonesport, Maine, where bluff erosion threatened a private home in 1987. This shoreline has subsequently been protected by rip-rap, artificial fill of boulders and quarried stone. This has slowed erosion rate at this site, but there are deleterious effects to the tidal flat fronting the site, and to neighboring stretches of shoreline.
