Seaweed management sometimes involves using seaweed for fertilizer in the dunes. In some cases, seaweed is hauled back to the water where it releases its sand on the intertidal or subtidal beach profile and then floats back to Casco Bay. In the last 20 years, dune fencing and restoration have led to a larger frontal dune that is more protective to the homes along the beach. (MGS file photo by S. M. Dickson.)
