Mineral Collecting Field Trips

Rules and Guidelines

Participation in these trips is free and completely voluntary. MGS/MMSA are only providing access to locations with the express permission of the quarry owners and operators.

Participation is on a per-trip basis. You cannot reserve a spot for the season. Registrations will be processed following the outlined procedure.

All responsibility for injuries incurred to person or property while participating in one of these field trips lies totally with the trip participants. Individual liability releases must be signed by each participant, on location, prior to the start of each trip.

Entrance permission is for the indicated date only. Participation in a trip does not entitle access to the trip location at a later date. Barring catastrophic weather, trips will be held rain or shine. There are no alternate "rain dates".

Unless stated otherwise, children must be at least 12 years old to participate. Pets must be under control of their owners at all times, and for their own safety should be left at home if possible.

All aspects of transportation and logistics including food, supplies, facilities, and any required safety gear are the responsibility of the participant. It's advisable to at least bring a small first aid kit, heavy shoes, hat, gloves, safety glasses or goggles, food, and water. Locations visited usually do not have trash receptacles, so plan on carrying out your trash. Cell phone reception may or may not be available.

Starting and ending times will be determined by the individual mine/quarry operators, as well as specific safety requirements such as hard hats, eye protection, safety vests etc. These requirements will be announced and strictly enforced.

Mineral collecting on these trips is for hobby purposes (non-commercial), using hand tools only, and should be limited to a reasonable quantity of specimens for your personal enjoyment.

Trip participants are guests of the mine or quarry owners/operators. Please be considerate of both the owners and other collectors, especially regarding safety issues. Avoid areas that are designated as off-limits.
