Figure 10. This gravel pit in southwestern Maine exposes the inside of a glacial-marine delta. The photo shows horizontal gravelly topset beds overlying foreset beds which slope in a seaward direction (right to left). These foresets consist of sand and gravel that cascaded down the front of the delta and eventually were covered by the topsets. The boundary between the two units marks the position of sea level.
