Educator & School Recognition
Maine is home to countless teachers, principals, superintendents, specialists and support staff who make the difference each day that allows students to succeed in their learning. Those educators who engage students, challenge them and ignite a love of learning deserve to be recognized.
The Maine Department of Education manages several award programs that recognize great educators and acts as a liaison between the sponsors of other award programs and the award recipients. This website also lists a variety of outside educator award programs with which the Maine DOE has no affiliation.
Look through the awards on these pages and nominate an educator you know for the honor he or she deserves.
- Educator Awards. The Maine DOE either directly manages these award programs that recognize individual educators or groups, or works with the program sponsor to identify and honor an award recipient. These awards include the Maine Teacher of the Year, Maine Educator Talent Pool, Milken National Educator Award, Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching, Maine's History Teacher of the Year and Commissioner's Recognition Awards.
- School Award. The Maine DOE works with the U.S. Department of Education to identify schools honored through the National Blue Ribbon Schools program.
- Outside Awards. A number of outside organizations, both in Maine and out of state, sponsor recognition programs for educators and schools. The Maine DOE has no involvement in these award programs.
