Maine EMS is a bureau within the Maine Department of Public Safety (DPS) established to be the central agency responsible for the coordination and integration of all state activities concerning Emergency Medical Services and the overall planning, evaluation, coordination, facilitation and regulation of EMS systems.

Trauma System Web Pages

Maine EMS Trauma System web pages have been added to the Maine EMS web site. Click here to navigate to the Maine Trauma System webpage or click on the Maine EMS Trauma System links on the left navigation bars within the web site.

The web pages include information and documents about the Maine EMS Trauma System as well as the current membership and meeting minutes of the Maine EMS Trauma Advisory Committee (TAC).

Maine EMS Awards Nomination Form

Click here to download the 2010 Maine EMS Awards nomination form. The Maine EMS Awards are presented each year in May during EMS Week and are conferred upon those individuals or groups that have demonstrated an exceptional level of commitment to EMS and EMD in Maine.

If you know of an individual, group, EMS service or EMD Center that has gone above and beyond the call of duty, please take time to fill out an awards nomination form and submit it to Maine EMS for consideration. Let your friends, coworkers, and fellow EMS and EMD professionals know how much they are appreciated for their dedication and caring.

Award nominations must be received by Maine no later than March 15, 2010, by mail or e-mail.

State Shutdown Day - Tuesday February 12, 2010

Budget legislation for the next biennium requires that all non-exempt executive branch state departments, agencies, and offices be closed for ten days in fiscal year 2009-2010 and ten days in fiscal year 2010-2011. These dates are in addition to scheduled holiday closings.

As a result, Maine EMS will be closed on the following dates:

Maine EMS Rules Changes Take Effect

10/1/09 - The revisions to Chapters 1 - 16 of the Maine EMS System Rules took effect on October 1, 2009. Rules revisions to Chapter 17 (concerning EMS equipment requirements) will take effect on January 1, 2010.

9/8/09 - The Maine EMS Medical Directions and Practice Board (MDPB) has approved education, protocol and operations requirements regarding influenza vaccine administration by Maine EMS EMT-Intermediates and Paramedics.

Maine ACEP Online Medical Control Training Program

8/11/09 - The new Online Medical Control Training Program and Test is now available on the Maine Chapter - American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) website. The program contains introduction, content and test modules.
