Fire Department Identification (FDID)In accordance with the specifications of the National Fire Incident Reporting System, the FDID number is a unique five-character identifier assigned by the state to identify a particular fire department within the state. This identifier may also identify the county, fire district, or other jurisdiction in which the fire department is located. Numerals or alphanumeric characters must occupy all five spaces in this field. If the FDID is less than five characters, use of leading zero’s is required. PurposeThe FDID number is used to identify incident data that has been collected and reported by individual fire departments. Feedback on local, regional or statewide incident experience can then be prepared and sent to local departments and also to the National Fire Information System at the United States Fire Administration. MEFIRS: FDID NumbersWithin the Maine Fire Incident Reporting System, the MEFIRS State Administrator at the Office of State Fire Marshal assigns Fire Department Identification (FDID) numbers to each local fire department. The FDID number assigned to local departments applies the requirements of the National Fire Incident Reporting System.
