Fire Department Identification (FDID)
The FDID number is a unique five-character identifier assigned by a state agency to identify a particular fire department within the state, in accordance with requirements from theNational Fire Incident Reporting System. This identifier may also identify the county, fire district, or other jurisdiction in which the fire department is located. Numerals or alphanumeric characters must occupy all five spaces in this field.
The FDID number is used to identify incident data that has been collected and reported by individual fire departments. Feedback on local, regional or statewide incident experience can be sent to local departments and also to the National Fire Information System at the United States Fire Administration.
MEFIRS: FDID Numbers
Within the Maine Fire Incident Reporting System, the MEFIRS State Administrator at the Office of State Fire Marshal assigns Fire Department Identification (FDID) numbers to each local fire department. The FDID number used within the Maine Fire Incident Reporting System consists of a five-character designation. The first letter character of the assigned FDID number designates the county in which the local fire department is located. The following four-digit number designates the individual number.
Each FDID number in the Maine Fire Incident Reporting System is unique. When a local department uses their FDID #, they should enter it exactly as it is assigned. The use of any alphanumeric characters other then the state-assigned number will not allow the local department to be recognized by the MEFIRS or NFIRS data collection servers.
