In-Service Training Requirements For All Corrections Officers
The following forms are available for download in either PDF or Microsoft Word or Power Point format. You will need the free Adobe Acrobat Reader to view and print them. Microsoft Word format requires either Microsoft Word or the free Microsoft Word Reader. Microsoft PowerPoint format requires either Microsoft PowerPoint or the free PowerPoint Viewer. In 2012, all Correctional Officers will complete training in:
- New Law Updates - material to be provided by the Attorney General's Office
- Security Threat Groups - Lesson Plan available upon request from a Correctional Facility
- Drug Awareness - to include information on synthetic drugs, signs and symptoms, and ways drugs get into facilities - Lesson Plan available upon request from a Correctional Facility
- Two (2) Elective topics of choice - each facility will choose two (2) topics in areas of need for them. The topics can not be OSHA nor Department of Labor requirements, and can not be required by Detention and Correctional Standards for County Jails (which would include suicide, fire/life safety, CPR/first aid).
In 2013, all Correctional Officers will complete training in:
- New Law Updates: to include information on the MCJA decertification process, and a review of two cases regarding information on when staff don’t do what they are supposed to as well as any new laws. Material to be provided by Attorney General’s Office.
- Staff Domestic Violence Awareness - Lesson Plan available upon request from a Correctional Facility
- Transgender Issues - Lesson Plan available upon request from a Correctional Facility
- Two (2) elective topics of choice – each facility will choose two (2) topics in areas of need for them. The topics cannot be required by OSHA, Department of Labor or by Detention and Correctional Standards for jails.
