Jobs & Training - 58th Maine State Police Training Troop
Week 9 seemed to be the busiest for the 58th RTT as we worked around the clock to prepare for graduation day. Training continued this week as the 58th completed a team building exercise like no other: we rappelled from the peak of the academy building using ropes and excellent instruction from Sgt Keith and Tpr Stetson. Everyone felt exhilarated and a sense of great accomplishment overcame us. In between classes and PT, the 58th cleaned vehicles and with help from the 14th Basic Law Enforcement Training Program cadets set up the stage for the big day.
On Thursday the 58th ran 6.2 miles to pay tribute to fallen hero Trooper Jeffery Parola, who died in 1994 while responding to a Tactical Team call. It was a heartening moment for all, and we were blessed with a sunny and warm day to remember the moment. The 58th finally made it to the end of some of the toughest and memorable training.
Graduation day was all we expected and more. Families, friends, guests, and other Troopers flooded the Maine Criminal Justice Academy to celebrate with us. Guest speakers Governor John Baldacci and Commissioner Anne Jordan spoke to all the new members of the State Police family and wished us well.
Now we will all go separate ways, each to an assigned Troop within the state, but we'll always have the memories of being a part of the 58th Maine State Police Recruit Training Troop.
