Maine 's latest dropout figures show that there is a 5.17 % rate of students dropping out of school from public and private schools. This figure represents over 2,163 students that are no longer participating in school. This figure however, may be just the tip of the iceberg. Solving the dropout problem is an essential component of Maine 's school transformation.
Maine schools can be places where all students succeed through:
Positive teacher-student relationships
The provision of challenging curriculum in addition to academic support to help students complete high school
Multiple types of assessments
Dedication to preparing students for a future beyond high school (Advisory Committee Report to the Legislature, 2003)
Truancy Dropout Technical Assistance
