Equity and Access:  Section 504 and Americans with Disabilities Act

Introduction to students with disabilities

The Federal Government has provided protection for students with disabilities in Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, Title II.  Both of these Acts are explained in the cover letter link listed directly below.  Additionally, the State of Maine has provided protection in the Maine Human Rights Act.
