Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap Announces Statewide Availability of Sportsmen's License Plate Design
Proceeds from sale “benefit wide array of outdoor activities”
Augusta, Maine – The Maine Secretary of State and the Commissioner of the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife are pleased to present today the Maine Sportsmen’s License Plate to outdoor enthusiasts throughout the state.
“Sportsmen from all over the country and the world come here so they can enjoy world-class outdoor pursuits,” said Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap. “Now sportsmen and others can display some of Maine’s amazing natural wonders right on their vehicles- celebrating our outdoor heritage while helping sustain the programs that benefit Maine’s lands and native species.”
The new Maine Sportsmen’s plate now is available statewide for a fee of $20, with annual renewals also for $20. The new plates now are available at all Bureau of Motor Vehicles branch offices across the state as well as at municipal offices where plates are sold.
“The funds raised by this plate are specifically designated for fish hatcheries maintenance fund, boat launch facilities, Maine’s endangered and non-game wildlife, and supporting landowners,” Dunlap explained. “It’s a great way for anyone to help both Maine’s economy and our state’s natural resources.”
Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Commissioner Roland D. “Dan” Martin said, “It’s a great day for Maine’s sportsmen. This plate’s design, featuring the instantly recognizable images of Mount Katahdin, a bull moose, and a trout, serves as a great reminder of Maine’s long tradition of sporting endeavors. We’re happy to give our hunters, anglers and all others who enjoy this state’s many and varied recreational opportunities a chance to give a little something back.”
Martin added, “This new plate provides outdoor enthusiasts and others the opportunity to support a lasting legacy. Further, the funds generated by this endeavor will help drive the programs that matter most in maintaining the ongoing success of the Maine outdoors, as a place to work, and a place to play.”
