Maine Warden Service Suspends for the Night Search for Missing Angler

Augusta, Maine - The Maine Warden Service and local rescue crews have suspended for the night their search for a 20-year-old Massachusetts man reported missing earlier tonight after falling from a canoe while fishing on Damariscotta Lake in Jefferson.

The man was fishing with another Massachusetts man when the canoe capsized and took on water. One man and a dog made it to shore, and the man returned to the location where the canoe capsized and attempted to help his friend.

The incident occurred near the Bunker Hill Road boat launch in Jefferson. The Maine Warden Service, Bristol Fire Department's dive team and other crews searched for the missing man.

The Maine Warden Service and its dive team will resume the search in the morning. The man's family is being notified.
