Farmingdale Man Dies as Result of Canoe Incident

Augusta, Maine - A 43-year-old man died this evening, the result of a capsized canoe incident this afternoon (Sunday, Sept 6, 2009) on Damariscotta Lake in Jefferson.

Kenneth J. Soucy, 43, of Farmingdale and his son, Alex Soucy, 23, of Jefferson both went into approximately 7 feet of water, about 30-40 feet from shore, when the canoe they were in capsized at approximately 2:15 p.m. this afternoon.

Mr. Kenneth Soucy went under the water and did not come up, according to Game Warden Doug Kulis. A neighbor on shore, Mr. Terry Beal, saw the incident, went into the water and pulled Mr. Kenneth Soucy above the water and to shore. Mr. Alex Soucy was able to swim to shore.

Mr. Kenneth Soucy was transported to Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta, where he died this evening.

Life jackets were in the canoe.
