January 16, 2010 Berwick Man Seriously Hurt in Snowmobile Incident Augusta, Maine - A Berwick man was seriously injured today (Saturday, Jan. 16) when his snowmobile flipped and he hit his head on a small birch tree. Randy Belhumeur, 45, of Berwick was driving his 2000 Yamaha 700 in a field behind his house on Route 236 at approximately 3:35 p.m. today when the incident occurred. According to Warden John Lonergan, Mr. Belhumeur initially was traveling between 40 and 50 miles per hour, but was slowing down his sled when it hit a patch of ice. The sled made a right turn, flipped and Mr. Belhumeur hit his head on a small birch tree. Mr. Belhumeur suffered a broken back and neck, and was transported to Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover, N.H. He's in serious condition. Mr. Belhumeur was not wearing a helmet. Berwick Police and Berwick Rescue responded to the scene. The incident is under investigation by the Maine Warden Service. |
