Augusta, Maine - Gerald “Pete” Brooks, 75, of Union, was found by two surveyors working off Hart Road in Warren nearly 12 hours after he left his Union home on Tuesday to go for a walk.
Mr. Brooks was in good health, and told the Maine Warden Service that he had stopped to rest periodically through the night, but primarily walked around all night and morning trying to get out of the woods near Meadow Mountain.
Mr. Brooks, who suffers from Alzheimer’s disease, left his home at approximately 11 a.m. Tuesday, and was reported missing by his family at approximately 4 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.
The Maine Warden Service, Knox County Emergency Management Agency, Union and Hope fire departments, Maine Search and Rescue, Lincoln County search and rescue unit, Maine Search and Rescue Dogs, and two Maine Warden Service aircraft, including one outfitted with a FLIR camera, participated in the search. (About 130 searchers.)
