Search for Missing Boater on Big Lake Suspended for the Night

The Maine Warden Service has suspended for the night its search of Big Lake in Township 27 (Washington County) for a 40-year-old Princeton man who went into the water while boating on Saturday afternoon.

Scott James, 40, of Princeton and a juvenile were boating on a 16-foot open boat with a 25-hp motor when he ended up in the water before 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 19. The juvenile threw a lifejacket to Mr. James, went in the water and attempted to help him. The teen was pulled from the water by two nearby campers who heard him as he tried to swim to shore.

The teen today was able to return to the scene to assist wardens.

High winds and waves were reported at the time of the incident, according to Lieutenant Tom Ward.

Fourteen game wardens, including divers and a pilot, are conducting the search along with civilians. They'll return Tuesday morning.

The incident is under investigation.
