Missing Smithfield Man Found Deceased

Augusta, Maine - An 87-year-old Smithfield man reported missing on Monday morning was located this afternoon. He was deceased.

Phillip Golding, 87, was last seen by a neighbor at approximately 8:30 a.m. on Monday on East Pond Road in Smithfield. The Maine Warden Service was notified on Monday afternoon and began a search that went through the night. Dozens of search and rescue volunteers and others joined the search today.

A Maine Forest Service helicopter assisting in the search notified game wardens that a location in the woods about a half-mile from his home should be checked out, and Mr. Golding was found there.

Mr. Golding’s family has been notified.
