Man Summonsed by Maine Warden Service

Augusta, Maine - After investigating the fatal shooting of a German Shepherd in Magalloway (Oxford County), the Maine Warden Service has charged Mr. Christopher J. Salatino of Dixfield with the shooting of a domestic animal.  Mr. Salatino was deer hunting on November 2nd in a wooded area of Magalloway and thought he was shooting a coyote.

The dog was in the woods with its owner, Cindy Williams, who is a forester from Errol, NH.

Edie Smith, spokesperson for the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, stated today that “Unfortunately this is another case of a hunter not practicing “100% identification” before shooting a target.  The Maine Warden Service takes these cases very seriously and this investigation proved that Mr. Salatino should be charged with violating the law.  The summons has been delivered and as with hunting incidents such as these, after a full investigation, the hunter is charged and if found guilty, will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.”

The summons was filed at Oxford County District Court in Rumford.  The investigation is led by Warden Brock Clukey with assistance from Warden Norman Lewis.
