Weekend ATV Incident

Lyman, Maine - On Sunday, Maine Game Wardens located an ATV rider who had not returned home due to an unexpected overnight stay in the woods. On Saturday May 12 at 4:00 PM, David Flaherty, age 38 from 158 Jordan Springs Road in Alfred, drove his ATV on trails to visit a friend named Jack King who lived on North Berwick Road in Lyman. Jenevieve Flaherty, Flaherty’s mother, became concerned when her son did not return home that evening. She called the York County Sheriff’s Office at approximately 9:00 PM. Warden Service was notified at 12:10 AM early Sunday morning to assist in the search.

It was determined that Flaherty’s cell phone last sent out a signal from the area of Old Kennebunk Road. Game Wardens and Sheriff’s Deputies began searching the trail systems and homes located in that area. At 5:45 AM, Game Warden Seth Powers located Flaherty on an ATV trail and determined he had been involved in a crash. Flaherty was awake but hypothermic. He explained to Warden Powers that he had been lying in one position since midnight. Mr. Flaherty was taken from the scene by Game Warden Sergeant Dave Chabot and Lyman Fire and Rescue since the road was impassable by ambulance. Game Warden Jason Scott assisted in the search as well. The incident remains under investigation.
