Missing Skowhegan Man Found Alive By Maine Game Wardens

Skowhegan,Maine - Today, Maine Game Wardens started a search for missing Skowhegan resident Charles Frances Carney, age 84. Mr. Carney went missing yesterday, July 16, between 7:00 AM and 10:00 AM from 8 Middle Road in Skowhegan. People taking care of him at the residence looked for him could not find him. Mr. Carney lives at the residence with another older male and both are being taken care of by non-relatives. Skowhegan Police Department was notified yesterday and put out a teletype to area law enforcement agencies to look for Mr. Carney.

This afternoon, the Maine Warden Service learned of Carney’s disappearance and immediately dispatched two game wardens to Skowhegan. After getting some initial information from the residents at the house, wardens learned that Carney usually walks around the outside of the residence. They stated he always walks in the yard and uses a cane. A hasty search was conducted of nearby wooded areas. At approximately 4:45 PM, about 150 yards away from the residence, Game Warden Tom McKenney noticed some disturbed vegetation across the road from the residence. He soon located Mr. Carney face down in the dirt in a small patch of woods. Carney was still alive. Skowhegan ambulance was called and Mr. Carney was transported to Readington Fairview Hospital in Skowhegan.
