Hiker Located - Alder Stream Township

Alder Stream Twp., Maine - On Thursday, July 19 at approximately 9:00 PM, Maine Warden Service received a request for assistance with locating an overdue hiker on Snow Mountain in Alder Stream Township. Rudy Graf, 79, of Newcastle, left Megantic Fish and Game Club in Seven Ponds Township hiking to the summit of Snow Mountain around 3:30 PM. When he did not return at the expected time, an employee of the club hiked to the summit and back but did not locate Graf. At that point game wardens were called for assistance.

Wardens Scott Stevens and Kris MacCabe headed up the Snow Mountain Trail from Alder Stream Township as far as possible with ATVs and hiked from that point. Two employees of the club hiked up the mountain again from the camps and started down over the other side. The employees of the club located Graf on a ridge near Snow Mountain Pond. He had settled down and made a fire after realizing that he had taken the wrong trail back down the mountain. The wardens met up with the party and led them back down and out to waiting vehicles. Graf was in good condition with proper clothing providing a good source of heat.
