ATV Incident Injurs Two in Livermore

Livermore, Maine - At 3:15 this afternoon, an ATV incident occurred on River Road in Livermore injuring two. John Walker, age 25, was operating his 2012 Polaris 400 ATV on a small dirt track along the Androscoggin River. Walker had his 2 1/2 year old daughter on the ATV in front of him. They were negotiating a corner at a slow speed when he stopped to look back because he thought he was dragging something. When he pressed on the thumb throttle to continue driving, the thumb throttle lever stuck behind an aftermarket heated handle-bar grip. This caused the machine to accelerate. This ejected Walker and his daughter into a nearby tree. The daughter was not wearing a helmet.

The girl was taken by LifeFlight to Maine Medical Center in Portland for facial injuries and Walker was taken to Maine Medical Center in Lewiston for leg injuries. Game Warden Gary Allen is the primary investigating officer and is being assisted by Wardens Evan Franklin and Peter Herring. Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office assisted. This case remains under investigation and no further information is being released at this time.
