Essential Habitats have been designated for a few endangered or threatened species. However, habitats based on observations of all wildlife species that are endangered, threatened, and special concern [ETSC] are mapped in the ETSc data layer. This detailed habitat mapping enables MDIFW to make more refined recommendations on permit reviews and better prioritization of habitat for conservation and landscape planning. The ETSC database was designed to be compatible with NatureServe's Biotics so data will continue to support the Natural Heritage Program.
