Migratory Waterfowl Stamp

The Maine migratory waterfowl stamp is for collection purposes only. Proceeds from the sale of the annual duck stamps and permits are used to finance waterfowl management programs or to acquire waterfowl habitat.

A state migratory waterfowl permit is required to hunt migratory waterfowl in the State of Maine. See Migratory Waterfowl Permit.

Rick Alley

2013 was the third year that Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife used an “Open Category”, with 3 duck species to choose from. Those species were Greater or Lesser Scaup, Bufflehead, and Common Goldeneye. Below is a breakdown of the winners:

1st Place – Richard Alley, Jr., Islesford (winning art attached)

3rd Place – Michael Loring, Windham
HM – Thomas Merriam, Lovell
HM – Georgette Kanach, Gray

I want to congratulate all the winners, I know these projects can be time consuming, and myself and the judges appreciate the time and effort that goes into each piece we receive.

This year we will return to the one species format. The species listed below will be the subject of your 2014 Duck Stamp entry.

American Widgeon

In 2014, the contest will be on April 4 @ 5pm, in the Art Room at the Augusta Civic Center.

2012 Duck Stamp

The 2012 stamp was designed by Janine Folsom, Skowhegan, Maine, whose painting of the Ring Necked Duck was selected from the contest entries submitted by Maine resident artists.

The Department will begin to sell the 2012 Maine duck stamp September 1, 2012. Previous issues (1984-2011) were sold under the same procedure and are available only on the secondary market, from stamp collectors and dealers.

All revenues from the sale of duck stamps are used by the Department for waterfowl habitat acquisition and management.

Wood Duck

2011 was the first year that Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife introduced an“Open Category”, with 5 duck species to choose from. Those species were American Black Duck, Wood Duck, Green-Winged Teal, Blue-Winged Teal, and the Northern Pintail. These stamps will be destroyed after June 30th.

2010 Duck Stamp

The 2010 Maine Migratory Waterfowl Stamp, featuring Harlequin Ducks, was designed by Olga Wing, of Peru, Maine. A panel of judges selected it among 10 paintings by Maine resident artists in the 26th duck stamp art contest conducted by the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.

2009 Maine Migratory Waterfowl Stamp

The 2009 Maine Migratory Waterfowl Stamp, featuring Mallards, was designed by Georgette Kanach of Gray, Maine. A panel of judges selected it among 12 paintings by Maine resident artists in the 25th duck stamp art contest conducted by the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.

2008 Maine Migratory Waterfowl Stamp

The 2008 Maine Migratory Waterfowl Stamp, featuring the Hooded Merganser, was designed by Jeanine Staples of Topsham, Maine. A panel of judges selected it among 8 paintings by Maine resident artists in the 24th duck stamp art contest conducted by the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.

2007 Maine Migratory Waterfowl Stamp

The 2007 Maine Migratory Waterfowl Stamp, featuring the Long-Tailed Duck, was designed by Richard A. Alley, Jr. of Islesford. A panel of judges selected it among 7 paintings by Maine resident artists in the 23rd duck stamp art contest conducted by the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.
