I-295 Greater Portland Area Interstate Project

MaineDOT’s I-295 Northbound Project, this year’s rehabilitation of 13 bridges on Interstate 295, will begin with preliminary staging work in March and actual bridge repairs commencing in April.

Knowing the scope of this work will help you minimize any inconvenience stemming from traffic delays or detours. Please note that all dates are approximate and are subject to change. Motorists destined for points north of Portland may want to use the Maine Turnpike.

Nighttime maintenance and repair work on the Presumpscot River Bridge in Falmouth will demand slower speeds and extra caution for southbound motorists on Interstate 295.

Work will begin Sunday, September 30 and is scheduled for 7 PM to 6 AM, Sunday through Saturday — although, in observation of the Columbus Day holiday, no work is scheduled for Sunday, October 7 and Monday, October 8.

Traffic will be reduced to one lane during overnight hours, and work zone speed limits will be strictly enforced as always. Remember: Fines are doubled. Two lanes will be open to traffic by 6 AM

IMPORTANT: During the day, there will be a significant BUMP at the Presumpscot River Bridge and drivers are urged to slow down considerably at this location.

While highway work is always weather dependent, these bridge repairs are expected to be completed in three weeks. Drivers should also know that construction crews may be doing minor repairs in the southbound lane on Portland’s SLARR/CNRR and the PTRR Fore River Bridges on some nights during this period.
