Slow Down in Wintry Driving ConditionsThis is the Safety Spotlight icon

  • Over 7,000 crashes occur on snow- or ice-covered roadways each year in Maine, resulting in more than 20 fatalities and 2,400 injuries.
  • Snow- and ice-covered roads greatly reduce your ability to brake and maneuver, and 4-wheel drive does not reduce stopping distances.

Listen for weather and road conditions; watch for temperature drops. Be ready to SLOW DOWN and leave plenty of following distance from the vehicle ahead.

And remember to always fasten your safety belt!
