Mitigation for Emergency Managers (G393)

Description of Event:

This course is designed to enable the non-technical emergency worker to acquire skills in the use of mitigation. The course provides training in how to perform mitigation activities fundamental to reducing and eliminating long-term risk from hazards. It addresses the important roles of the emergency program manager (or other local government representative) in mitigation: motivator, coordinator, and monitor in local implementation of the National Mitigation Strategy.

Target Audience: The target training audience for this course includes local and State government emergency program managers, other emergency management staff, and other local government employees responsible for mitigation. The secondary audience includes Federal emergency management personnel and employees of local, State, and Federal governments who work in the emergency management field.

Note: To be accepted into this course, an individual must be a member of the target audience described above. In addition, it is recommended that participants complete FEMA's Independent Study (IS) 393.a course, Introduction to Hazard Mitigation, prior to enrollment.

Course Location: The course will be held in the MEMA Classroom at the Central Maine Commerce Center (CMCC). The CMCC is located at 45 Commerce Drive off Route 27 in North Augusta. Classes will run from 8:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily. Lunch and breaks will be provided. Lodging may be offered on a per case basis for those traveling more than 50 miles to attend the course. All other expenses are the responsibility of the student.
