All Tropical Cyclone Watches and Warnings Expired

All Tropical Cyclone warnings for Hurricane Earl have now been lifted. This included the Warnings for coastal Hancock and Washington, and for coastal waters from Stonington to Eastport. Flood concerns in the areas of heavy rainfall have also abated.

However, the National Weather Service in Caribou has posted a High Surf Advisory through 10:00 am Sunday.

NWS advises that long period swell will impact coastal areas in Hancock and Washington Counties through Sunday morning, with breaking waves building to peak heights of 10 to 15 feet by midday Saturday. These 10 to 15 foot waves will continue into evening, before dropping to 7 to 10 feet overnight and into Sunday.

Because of the long period associated with these waves, they will be more powerful and unpredictable than typical wind-generated waves. Extreme caution is advised to anyone venturing near the shoreline.

MEMA joins the National Weather Service in asking everyone to respect local restrictions on shoreline and beach access.
