MEMA Hosts Emergency Operations Center/Incident Management Team Interface Training
October 26, 2011
MEMA hosted a 4 day training and exercise program October 18-21 for members of the State Incident Management Team and State Emergency Operations Center. The FEMA program L947 was conducted by a diverse team of instructors from the Emergency Management Institute in Emmittsburg, MD. The goal of the program was to strengthen the relationship between the MEMA EOC and members of the Maine Dept of Forestry and State Police who comprise the Type 3 State IMT supported by mobile command vehicles equipped with the latest data management and communications technology. The training culminated in a 2 day exercise using a realistic scenario surrounding a planned event and subsequent series of severe weather incidents which overwhelmed local responders in the Raymond/Windham area. Jeremy Damren and Mike Grant of MEMA coordinated the event with assistance from Jeff Currier of the MFS. The overall success of the program will lead to future operations involving the team. The Maine Warden Service, also IMT members, were unable to participate due to prior commitments associated with the beginning of hunting season in the State.
