Disaster Recovery Center to Open in Van Buren

Augusta, Maine - Officials from Maine Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will open a second Disaster Recovery Center in Aroostook County. The center will be at: Van Buren Community Center This facility serves to assist individuals and business owners impacted by the flooding that occurred beginning April 28. The Disaster Recovery Center in Fort Kent continues to operate 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. at the Municipal Center, 416 West Main Street. Additional locations will be announced as sites are determined. Those affected are encouraged to first register for assistance by calling toll-free 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or 1-800-462-7585 (TTY) for the hearing and speech impaired, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., seven days a week or register anytime online at http://www.fema.gov. Telephone and online registration is available at the recovery center if needed. Disaster Recovery Centers will be staffed with recovery specialists who are available to assist individuals and businesses from the declared counties with follow-up questions about their application. Representatives from FEMA, MEMA, voluntary agencies and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) will be on hand. In addition, written materials describing the various assistance programs and mitigation plans outlining how to reduce damage from future disasters will also be made available.
