The following information is from last month’s update just to ensure everyone is aware of this one-time grant and critical dates.

Public Safety Interoperability Communications (PSIC) Grant Announced

With the approval of Maine’s SCIP the Maine Interoperability Communications Committee (MICC) was briefed. This briefing included the latest changes to the SCIP as well as a presentation for approval of the PSIC Grant Guidance documents. The briefing concluded with approval to announce the PSIC Grant on May 1st, 2008.

What’s Next?

July 1st, 2008: This is the PSIC Grant Application Deadline for local and tribal applications (electronic format) to arrive at their respective County Emergency Management Agency (EMA). Each County EMA Director will review applications for completeness and then prioritize with all other applications submitted from their respective county.

July 15th, 2008: All PSIC Grant applications are due from all County EMA Directors to MEMA to include prioritization of all applications.

July 22nd & 23rd, 2008: PSIC Grant Review Committee reviews all applications and makes recommendations for grant funding.

July 24th – 31st, 2008: MEMA consolidates recommendations and forwards Investment Justifications to DHS for approval and funding.

*September 1st +/-, 2008: Receive grant funding approval from DHS and announce grant funding approval.

*NOTE: Date may vary depending on actual date funding approval is received.

Communication Assets Survey and Mapping Tool (CASM)

Data has been collected and complied into binders which will be provided to each County EMA Office very soon. Thank you to all organizations that have provided this important data.

Question:

I received a yellow postcard announcing a Public Safety Interoperable Communications (PSIC) Grant Program. What is this grant about and who is eligible?

Answer:

Over 2,300 cards announcing this grant were sent out on May 1st to individuals representing various levels of government and public safety organizations throughout the state. This is a mandatory requirement. While many of those that received this notice are not directly involved, it was sent to provide them awareness of the grant program.

Please refer to the MEMA/PSIC web-site to get all the information about the PSIC Grant Program.

Question:

I can not find the Category Code for chargers or accessories listed in the Authorized Equipment List (AEL) that support the equipment I want to get funded. What do I do?

Answer:

Use the Category Code for the item(s) that you want to purchase accessories and indicate that the item(s) you want is a component of the item that has a Category Code.
