Knox County EMA Hosts MCI Tabletop Exercise

June 27, 2009

On June 25, 2009, a tabletop exercise took place at the Knox County Emergency Management Office. The Emergency Medical Services in Knox County have met several times and have assisted in devloping a Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) plan. This plan directs the important role that EMS will play in the event of an MCI.

The tabletop was designed by Knox County EMA and involved a school bus accident at a busy intersection in Rockport. As a result, responding EMS agencies responded in accordance with the new drafted plan to test the procedures. Several photos have been uploaded to MEMA's page on Facebook.

All participants were receptive to testing the draft plan, understanding that it is necessary to have some guidance in case of an actual MCI. This also prepared responders for the upcoming full scale exercise in which Knox County EMA will be hosting on October 17 2009 in the Rockport area.

For more information on exercising your plan, contact your County Emergency Management Agency or Maine Emergency Management Agency.
