Day Three of Exercise Vigilant Guard

Exercise Vigilant Guard continues today, Thursday, November 7, 2013

Today's major simulated events:

  • State Emergency Operations Center (EOC) remains open for the duration of the exercise. Emergency Response Team members from all State departments, the American Red Cross and the US Coast Guard continue to work on their response to a variety of critical incidents statewide. The Communications Center is testing state and amateur radio systems.
  • Public health officials from the Maine CDC and federal, state and local partners continue to respond to a simulated disease threat, and will be exercising mass dispensing of medications at a variety of locations
  • In Portland, a maritime incident is involving Portland and South Portland Fire Departments, Maine Marine Patrol the US Coast Guard, the 11th Civil Support Team of the Maine National Guard, and other support agencies.

About the Exercise:

The exercise is part of a series of training events sponsored by the U.S. Northern Command and the National Guard Bureau aimed at improving command, control and operational relationships with local, state and regional civilian and military emergency response partners.

The exercise continues statewide through noon on Friday.
