Weather Links

Provided by a partnership with Department of Conservation, Maine Geological Survey

Here are links to reliable sites for comprehensive weather information, satellite images, weather maps and tide charts. Some of the images are large; some of the links are slow (especially when there's "interesting" weather somewhere).

These sites offers text-based weather product files, graphics and a wealth of educational material.

IWIN logoInteractive Weather Information Network (IWIN)

The National Weather Service's Internet data source.. This service now peaks at over two million visits per day.

SSEC logoUniversity of Wisconsin Space Science and Engineering Center

These large images are the highest resolution satellite images we've found. Often 500-to-600 kb in size, the visible images can provide some spectacular images of storms.

unisys logoUnisys Weather WXP, the Weather Processor

WXP, the Weather Processor, is a suite of routines for analyzing and displaying meteorological data and satellite images. WXP originated at Purdue University but is now being developed by Unisys. It is intended to be an general purpose weather visualization tool for near-realtime and archived meteorological data.

intellicast logo Intellicast: a service of WSI Corporation

Local conditions and forecasts; near-realtime doppler radar images. Not especially good for satellite imagery; the images are small composites generated from infrared satellite imagery. They do load quickly, however.

Weather Channel logoThe Weather Channel

The same as on your TV, only without the happy talk. Much improved images and maps; nice city pages; late breaking weather news.... A nice site....

earthwatch logoEarthWatch Communications, Inc.

Like those neat 3-D images on TV? EarthWatch Communications is where you'll find them on the 'Net. Not the most current or most detailed, though....

nerfc logoGraphical Hydrometeorological Discussion

Information available includes current and forecast river conditions, precipitation, temperature, and snow maps (when appropriate).
