Tim Schneider was appointed Public Advocate by Governor Paul LePage, and confirmed by the Maine Legislature in May of 2013 for a four year term. Prior to becoming Public Advocate, Tim represented clients in a wide range of matters before the Maine Public Utilities Commission and FERC, focused primarily on natural gas and electricity. Bill Black has been General Counsel in the Public Advocate office since 1987. After three years of private practice in Camden, Bill started to represent ratepayer interests at the Attorney General's office, then moved to the Public Advocate upon its opening. Bill and Wayne Jortner focus on telecommunications issues. A graduate of Stanford University and Boston University, Bill also handles water rate cases and cases initiated by customer petition. Wayne R. Jortner has been counsel for the Public Advocate since 1991. He came to this office with eleven years of general legal practice and supervisory experience. Wayne received his B.A. from Queens College of the City University of New York and his law degree from Rutgers University. Wayne is currently the Treasurer and Board Member of the Federal Universal Service Fund representing all the US telephone service consumers. Eric Bryant took his position with the Public Advocate in August of 1993. Before that he served as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Maine, and has also worked in private practice for a Portland Maine law firm. He received his law degree from the University of Maine School of Law in 1986, and his undergraduate degree from Harvard University in 1979. Agnes Gormley accepted her position with the Public Advocate as of July 2007. Before joining the office she worked primarily as an attorney with state and federal government. Patty has worked for the Public Advocate Office since 1982. Patty received her B.S. degree in Public Administration from the University of Maine of Augusta and her Masters in Public Administration from the University of Maine at Orono. She functions as a research assistant to the staff of the Public Advocate and also manages budgetary and personnel administrative tasks.
