Topographic Quad Maps

Maine DOT hosts a free web map service through MEGIS with a topographical map background available: http://www.maine.gov/mdot/mapviewer/

You can go to a town just by typing it in the map search box (e.g. Gardiner) and then move around to where you want to be. You can also search for a street in a town and it will zoom to the approximate location (e.g. 55 Capitol Street, Augusta).

Click on "Set Background" and choose only the topographic maps. Turn the other layers off.

Also click on Hide Layers to get rid of the DOT layers, Hide Legend, etc. so you just see the topo map itself.

In order to print this map, select the “Save to PDF” tab. You need to wait a minute for it to load. See the attached PDF example. You will have to handwrite on the map where your project location is.
